Ballet 5:8’s La Llorona returns to Illinois stages in 2025–26. This powerful, critically acclaimed ballet reimagines the Mexican legend as a deeply human story of postpartum depression, grief, and healing.
La Llorona de Ballet 5:8 regresa a los escenarios de Illinois en 2025–26. Este poderoso ballet, aclamado por la crítica, reimagina la leyenda mexicana como una historia profundamente humana de depresión posparto, duelo y sanación.
Featuring original choreography by Julianna Rubio Slager and a haunting score featuring Mexican folk music, experimental trumpet music by Nills Petter Molvaer and original music by Lhasa de Sela, La Llorona invites audiences into the emotional world of a mother unraveling and finding her way back.
Generations of children have grown up afraid of La Llorona but in this interpretation of the age-old Mexican tale, is the story of a mom just trying to find her way.
